Beaches and Rivers reopen in Jamaica today

The Government of Jamaica had closed public beaches and rivers in Jamaica to limit the spread of covid-19 on the island. However due to the successes in the containment of the illness it has been decided to reopen them today, June 7, 2020.

The opening of the rivers and beaches will last for 2 weeks after which the order for their reopening will be reviewed for extension. The opening hours are from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Pools, however are to remain closed. The Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie also mentioned the rules that will govern the use of these attractions. According to the Minister only swimming and jogging will be allowed. Social gatherings such as beach parties, beach football and other beach sports are prohibited.

Social distancing measures are to be adhered to. Gathering in any one area must not exceed 10 persons. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets to sit on as no seating will be provided. The use of bathrooms facilities will be strictly enforced to ensure social distancing.
