British PM taken to ICU due to COVID-19

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of Britain has been taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at St. Thomas’ Hospital. This after his symptoms of the COVID-19 disease has worsened.

The Prine Minister first tested positive for coronavirus some 10 days ago with what his medical team called “mild.symptoms”.

The 55 year old Johnson had initially dispalyed some nonchalant attiude towards the disease in the early days of its spread. He even boasted that he had visited a hospital and shook the hands of some patients who supposedly had the virus.

Things however took a turn for the worse recently as he was rushed to the ICU. So drastic has things changed that Mr. Johnson had asked his foreign secretary Dominic Raab to deputise for him. This in effect means that Mr. Raab is leader of the British Government.

It is also noteworthy that Mr. Johnson’s partner Ms. Carrie Symonds, who is preganant is also recovering from coronavirus symptoms.

There has been widespread messages of support from statesmen of various countries.

President of France Emmanuel Macron took to twitter to extend his support. His tweet in French has.been translated to:

“My full support for Boris Johnson, his family and the British people at this difficult time. I hope he overcomes this ordeal quickly.”

President Donald Trump of the US commented:

“We’re very saddened to hear that [Johnson] was taken into intensive care this afternoon, a little while ago and Americans are all praying for his recovery. He’s been really something very special: strong resolute; doesn’t quit; doesn’t give up.”
