New rules for Jamaica come into effect on June 1

As of June 1, 2020 the following new rules will come into effect for Jamaica:

  • The current curfew hours are to continue until June 14, 2020. That is from 9:00 P.M. to 5:00 A.M.
  • Beginning on June 14, 2020 the curfew hours will be from 10:00 P.M. to 5 A.M. This is to continue until June 30, 2020.
  • The Jamaican ports will re-open to Jamaican nationals effective June 1, 2020 under new travel bubble protocol.
  • Countries that have a similar management and profile result for the epidemic regarding spread, death rate, infection prevention and control measures, contact tracing protocols and other such criteria could constitute a “travel bubble.”
  • Home quarantine with geofencing will continue for Jamaicans returning from countries outside of the travel bubble and returning to high risk communities.
  • Between June 1 and June 14 persons entering Jamaica will be subject to testing EXCEPT for those entering from a country within the “travel bubble” as defined based on specific criteria.
  • As of June 15 non-Jamaican nationals will be allowed to enter Jamaica. Protocols regarding this will be provided soon.
  • Stay at home orders are to remain for persons aged 65 and over. The orders also remain for those who are ill with respiratory illnesses.
  • Gatherings in public places should not exceed 10 persons up to June 30, 2020.
  • The order to wear masks in public remains until June 30, 2020.
  • Existing restrictions on hospitals, prisons and infirmaries shall remain in place until June 30, 2020.
  • Restrictions on Barber shops and hair salons shall also remain.
  • Work from home orders will be replaced with work smart / work safe orders.
  • The use technology must be used to work smart and work safe.
  • Buses must only carry seated passengers. Taxi drivers are allowed to carry the number of passengers they are licensed to.
  • Bars other than community bars, nightclubs, beaches and other water attractions are to remain closed.
  • Weddings and funerals should have no more than 15 persons.
  • Restrictions relating to churches will remain.
  • A Mobile app is now being used to monitor ship workers now in home quarantine.
  • Some 2300 persons have returned under the re-entry programme.
  • As of June 8, 2020 secondary schools will be partially re-opened to facilitate the preparation for and sitting of CSEC and CAPE examinations. These examinations will begin on July 13, 2020.
