President Trump made the news again for controversial remarks

President Trump of the United States has once again made the news for some controversial remarks. This time he is seen on video uttering what seems to be advice on how to treat COVID-19.

In the video Trump can be heard saying:

“So, supposing we hit the body with a tremendous – whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light,” the president said, turning to Dr Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response co-ordinator, “and I think you said that hasn’t been checked but you’re going to test it.”

“And then I said, supposing you brought the light inside of the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. Sounds interesting.”

The President appears to then suggest ingesting disinfectant to treat the disease.

“And then I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning?

“So it’d be interesting to check that.”

Interestingly Mr. Trump then seemed to create an escape for these shocking statements when, he pointed to his head, said: “I’m not a doctor. But I’m, like, a person that has a good you-know-what.”

It is true that President Trump is no doctor so one has to treat his utterances with a pinch of salt.

Reaction from the experts

Kashif Mahmood, a doctor in Charleston, West Virginia, in the USA tweeted: “As a physician, I can’t recommend injecting disinfectant into the lungs or using UV radiation inside the body to treat Covid-19.

“Don’t take medical advice from Trump.”

Even companies that make disinfectants such as Lysol and Dettol has chimed in to put down the suggestion by Trump: “Under no circumstances should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route,” Reckitt Benckiser, the UK-based maker of Lysol and Dettol, said in a statement Friday.
