Outpour of tributes for the late MP Shanine Robinson

The recent passing of former Minister of Labour and Social Security and Member of Parliament (MP) for North East St. Ann Shanine Robinson has led to an outpour of tributes. The former member of the Jamaica Labour Party died today May 29, 2020 from cancer. She was 66 years old.

Leading the tributes was Prime Minster Andrew Holness. The PM descirbed her as “a patriot, a servant of the people, a much loved political representative adored by her constituents, a humanitarian and a great personal friend.” The Prime Minister also commented that Shahine Robinson was “an earnest and passionate member of the Jamaica Labour Party, Shahine never wavered in her love for her Party. She fought courageously against her illness; her passing has left us with a sense of deep sorrow and we shall miss her dearly.”

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange described the former minister as “quiet and unassuming but she was very effective.”

Tributes from the opposition

MP for Central Manchester Peter Bunting commented that “Shahine was a formidable campaigner, and a dedicated constituency representative. Soft spoken and approachable, she was well loved by all. She will be greatly missed by her family, constituents, colleagues, and friends.”

“Mrs Robinson was my friend. I invited her to judge my youth mth activity, she was sure to attend. Once we were in Barbados and the delegation could not believe we were fr opposing sides. A true champion of the poor & working class,” commented MP for St Ann North West, Dr Dayton Campbell.
