Second consecutive day of no new COVID-19 cases for Jamaica

According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Jamaica has registered the second consecutive day of no new COVID-19 cases. The Ministry has also announced that the last 24 hours sees the largest number of recoveries (14) for the island. The total number of recoveries now stands at 145.

The total number of confirmed cases remains at 520. Of the 520 cases:

  • 44 are imported cases
  • 204 are contacts of confirmed cases. This includes 25 that are import related, 69 that are linked to local transmission cases (not epidemiologically linked), 97 are contacts of employees in the workplace cluster and 13 are contacts of confirmed cases under investigation
  • There are 26 local transmission cases not epidemiologically linked
  • 246 cases are under investigation

Some 315 (61%) of the confirmed cases are females and 205 (39%) are males with ages ranging from 2 months to 87 years.

Of the 520 cases to date, there is a 27.9% recovery rate with 145 recovered and 9 patients have died(1.7%). Some 366 (70.4%) cases are currently active, of which none are critically or moderately ill. St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover and Trelawny are without any active COVID-19 cases.

Testing

The total number of samples tested on the island to date is 8,828 with 520 positives, 8,234 negatives and 74 samples pending. One hundred and fifty-five samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
