Highlights of news conference held at Office of the Prime Minister today

During a news conference held at the Office of the Prime Minister today the following points highlights the main points raised:

  • No new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This is the second day to achieve this feat.
  • There has been 4 additional recoveries over the same period.
  • There has been 520 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
  • To date there has been 131 COVID-19 recoveries. This represent a 25.2% recovery rate.
  • 9 deaths are related to COVID-19.
  • Therefore there are currently 380 active cases.
  • The current work-from-home orders will expire at the end of May. The Government of Jamaica intends to allow persons other than our vulnerable population (persons aged 65 and over, persons with comorbidities, etc), to return to work effective, June 1.
  • All the normal infection prevention and safety protocols would need to be in place. The various protocols for factories, workplaces, banking halls, etc. are being developed in conjunction with the PSOJ.
  • Of the 7,448 workers who were temporarily laid off from the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Industry due to COVID-19, some 1800 workers have returned to work. This number is expected to rise.
  • Starting July 27 CXC / CSEC examinations will be conducted in Jamaica.
